What started out as a weather threatened weekend, Saturday March 26th actually cooperated with our plans for the annual SCI youth hunt.
At this year’s 2011 banquet and fundraiser, we selected four lucky youth hunters to participate in our traditional hog hunt. In addition, we invited another youth that we felt was a deserving candidate that had recently lost his father. Adding to this, the family that purchased the same hog hunt on our banquets live auction made this a happy and
ambitious group of six young men. Along with the supporting family members, this was definitely our largest group for this particular hunt and event.
The group met in Castledale, just south of Price, Utah to hunt the large Feral Hogs in which
Garrett Hunting Services specializes. Our main guide, Owen Garrett explained the plan of attack
in addition to a short briefing on firearms safety and rifle sighting. Afterwards, our group of youth
hunters, SCI Board members, guides, family and friends were excited and anxious to begin our
hunt.
The day started out a bit chilly, however by the time we started hiking and with the excitement of
spotting our first duo of hogs, the chill immediately wore off. We started by hiking up on top of
the cliffs and mountain ranges to get a better angle and viewing range in our efforts to spot-andstalk
the animals. The hunt started out rather quickly with two downed hogs within the hour.
However, there were some concerns later since the animals seemed to be bedding down and
difficult to locate. Through the dedicated efforts of the group, all six hunters had their 300+ pound
trophies within a few hours.

Thank you to our SCI Utah
supporters and Owen Garrett for making this project, a success. This marks another successful program that certainly
substantiates the Safari Club International charter and mission to help preserve our hunting privileges, as well ensure
our future by hunting with our youth and keeping them interested in the outdoors.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2011
YOUTH HUNTERS!!!!!!!!
